Getting ready for the start of term

Autumn is beginning to arrive and the start of term is getting closer and closer. In two weeks the undergraduates will return to College, along with a new cohort of students. The College Library team have been getting everything ready for the start of term, printing Library Guides, drawing up induction timetables for the Freshers, and ordering new books from Faculty reading lists.

After consultation with the JCR committee, this year we have raised the number of books that you can borrow from the College Library. Students can now borrow up to 10 items from the Library, and that can be any combination of books, DVDs, CDs, and sheet music. We welcome your thoughts on this change (and of course on any other aspect of our service!) so please send feedback to library@magd.cam.ac.uk, or speak to me or Sophie in the College Library.

The Maintenance and Domestic departments have also been hard at work in the Library this vacation. We have been posting updates throughout the summer, and the redecoration has made a big difference to the atmosphere of the Library. The new carpet is in place upstairs, and most recently the Right Cloister desks have been cleaned, rubbed down and revarnished.

I am looking forward to seeing our returning students again and meeting the new Freshers at their induction sessions.
