End-of-term notices

It has been a very unusual term in the College Library to say the least, but it has been good to see some of you in the Pepys building and in Ramsay Hall and to have been able to provide books via the Request and Collect. Please find below the end-of-term & winter vacation arrangements.

  • Current College Library in Pepys building closes on Friday 4th December for vacation period – no study space or browsing
  • ‘Request and Collect’ available until Friday 18th December.
  • Cripps supervision rooms available for individual or household booking from Monday 7th December
  • Planned opening of The New Library – Tuesday 19th January.

New Library

We are expecting to move over from the current Library in the Pepys building to The New Library building at the start of Lent term. The prospect of finally making it over to this fantastic new space is very exciting and there are a host of people in College working extremely hard to make this happen. We’ve got a few photos on the Library IG page to give you a sneak preview and I’ll be documenting the move over Christmas there as well: https://www.instagram.com/magdlibs/

The New Library will still have to operate within the national Covid safety guidelines, which means occupancy levels will have to be managed and bookable study spaces will be socially distanced. We are working hard with the Head Porter to make the Library as accessible as possible during Lent term, so that study space is available when you need it to be. Details about how to access the new Library will be sent out before the start of term.

It will be a fantastic showcase of our library collection and a great place to study in, we’re looking forward to welcoming you in!

Current Library Closure – 4th December

There is a lot still to be done and in order to  be ready for the start of Lent term we will have to close the current Library in the Pepys building from the 4th December to Tuesday 19th January. This closure period will enable us to prepare for the move and in particular moving the books in the New Year.

During the vacation, due to the closure of the Library , the supervision rooms in Cripps Court will be available to book for private study; this can either be individually or in your household group. Group bookings with those outside your household are not permitted due to the rooms being too small to allow for social distancing. To book, please use https://bookings.magd.cam.ac.uk/ and select Supervisions. Please do not book Buckingham or Benson Hall.

‘Request and Collect’ – 18th December

The ‘Request and Collect’ service will continue to be provided until Friday 18th December. Beyond the 18th December we will not be able to provide access to books until Tuesday 19th January, so if you need a book in the New Year please plan ahead and make the request early.

Book returns/vacation loans

There will be no end of term book recall, your loans will continue to renew automatically into the vacation period. As always if you no longer need a book please return to the current drop boxes outside the Library, in Ramsay and the Porters Lodge.

Please note: There will be a full recall of all books at the end of Lent term, so if you have left books at home please ensure that you bring them with you next term.
